Thursday was a good day for Labour in Lewisham, in Deptford, the voters of New Cross elected Samantha Latouche as a new Councillor for New Cross Ward. Labour candidates in Catford, Bellingham and Sydenham were also elected. Len Duvall was re-elected as London Assembly Member for Greenwich and Lewisham and Sakina Sheikh, from Catford South was elected to the Assembly on the London List.
Len Duvall says,
Following today’s result, I want to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you.
To my opponents and their activists, you’ve shown a commitment to our democratic processes and I respect and thank you for the way you’ve conducted your campaigns.
To everyone in Greenwich and Lewisham who have put their faith in me once again, and to those who voted for other candidates, I shall work my hardest to serve you all.
To my agent, Kevin, my organiser in Greenwich, Naz, and to Ollie, who stepped in from London Labour to support my campaign in Lewisham, I am indebted to you all. A sincere thank you.
To all those Labour members, supporters, councillors and MPs who have been out on the doorstep talking to the electorate, I am more grateful than words can express.
And a particular thanks to Danny and Damien for your work in galvanising our activists. You are true leaders.
To Kim and Debbie, Chief Execs at Lewisham and Greenwich respectively, and all those who have delivered a fantastic democratic process, thank you.
We will hold mixed feelings about this election, but with Labour on course for a majority on the Assembly and to return a fantastic Labour mayor, we are not down and out.
Covid has more challenges yet to bring and it’s going to be tough for our country and our capital. But Labour will help deliver the practical solutions we need to see us through this time and to prosper.
His thanks are those I am sure the other candidates support. Thank you for your trust.
